Embedded Learning Academy offers a free 15 hour course in Resiliency for PA certified teachers. The course titled, "Promoting Student Success Through Resiliency is offered in a nonclassroom-embedded self-study format. Work at your own pace and earn 15 Act 48 hours for completion of the course.

Overview

This course is divided into ten sections:
  1. Introduces course content, outcomes, and the materials of the course
  2. Focuses on exploring internal and environmental protective factors that foster resiliency in students
  3. Investigates the six elements of the Resiliency Wheel and its relationship to academic success.
  4. Helps you explore why setting high expectations is important and what effect this has on students.
  5. Examines meaningful student engagement through research, participation, and activities to promote meaningful connection.
  6. Investigates the value of connectiveness and bonding between a young person and an experienced adult.
  7. Examines the importance of clear and consistent boundaries to the success of students.
  8. Introduces skills for life and teaches you why it is important for students to know these skills.
  9. Explores caring and unconditional support, components of resiliency, in schools and communities.
  10. Culminating activity based on the collection of reflections and results from course activities.

Objectives

  • Define resiliency and understand its importance.
  • Understand internal and environmental protective factors and why they are vital to resiliency.
  • Explain the Resiliency Wheel as a framework for helping students, parents, and school staff.
  • Define high expectations and identify how they contribute to success.
  • Identify specific ways schools can give students a sense of meaningful engagement.
  • Explain how offering many ways to learn can connect and bond students to school.
  • Identify how clear and consistent boundaries contribute to student success.
  • Establish a connection between skills for life and social and emotional learning, positive school climate, and the implementation of the Resiliency Wheel.
  • Identify and apply specific steps to foster resiliency that can be utilized to benefit schools and communities.
